Howdy, loves. It’s another Musical Theatre Monday.
Today, I wanted to share the lovely song, Holding to the Ground from FALSETTOS. I’m not too familiar with the show as a whole, but I absolutely love Stephanie J. Block (I’m currently watching her real-life husband Sebastian Arcelus on my re-binge of Madam Secretary, where she makes a few cameos as his character’s wife.)
But all of that aside: even though it’s pretty often that an actor creates a song, the magic of musical theatre is that each person brings their own twist to it. And listening to other versions is pretty magical—they each bring their own something special.
Here’s Faith Prince, from the 1990 Off-Broadway Cast Recording. Not only does it have that beautiful bright brass in the instrumental things, but the entire thing comes off as more optimistic!
So many things go into a performance / interpretation of a song. It’s one of the many reasons that I love listening to covers.
I'm trying to keep sane as the rules keep changing
Families aren't what they were
Thank God there's a husband and a child
